a wedding celebration in guadalajara
February 1, 2023Earlier this month, I had the ultimate fortune of being Diego’s plus one to a wedding celebration for a beautiful weekend in Guadalajara, Mexico. We spent the first day strolling around the city - it culminated with a group outing to El Parián in Tlaquepaque. Mariachis and other performers played in the background as we drank bowls of a drink made of mashed fruit and tequila. The next day, the party met to ride out to a Tequila distillery, where we first learned how the jimadors harvest the piña from the agaves. Then, we tasted tequila - and lots of it! At one point along the day trip, the group was left to roam the town of Tequila. Diego and I stopped for a drink in La Capilla and for a spicy, delicious torta ahogada from a spot in small food hall. Before heading back into town, we were unleashed upon a cantaritos factory, El Guero. After copious amounts of dancing (to a variety of the 6+ bandas playing throughout) and another mashed fruit and tequila concoction served in gigantic ceramic jugs, we headed home to rest before the big day!
The wedding ceremony took place about an hour out of the city, where we spent a magical Sunday late afternoon and night. The wedding took place in an open-air ceremonial hall, with elegant tile paving the aisle among intimate seating of the bride and groom’s family and friends. We shifted from a beautiful cocktail hour with a fountain at the center and live music from a cellist to a grand dinner Then reception activities - their entry as a married couple (woo!!), mother and father dances and a til-midnight tear up of the dance floor platform by everyone in attendance.
Big congratulations and love to Mr. & Mrs. Casillas! An unforgettable viaje.
