El Paso coffee tour - 4.24 update
April 26, 2024Per usual, I’ve leveraged the powers of the local coffee shop/cafe to tether me to my new city, El Paso, TX. (The same was done in San Antonio, DC, Chicago, KC, Sevilla, and Phoenix.) Here’s the latest and greatest on my coffee tour - largely comprised of cold brew pursuits.
__Culinary Studio - a catering company that doubles as a coffee shop by day. It’s getting the top spot after our first impression earlier this week, Wednesday morning. I didn’t stay and sit - more of a grab-and-go place, though the bistro tables + goodies for purchase are quite sweet. This was a chef-crafted cold brew - and you could tell. Initially, I brow-raised at the list of cold brew with foam ‘flavors’. Blackberry, raspberry, horchata choco flan, lemonade/shandy…
But I was wrong to question these guys. The foam is a light, frothy topper - but totally separate from the bold, just-what-you-asked-for cold brew beneath. 10/10 and thanks for the surprise.
__Viejo - GCBOAT, which stands for greatest cold brew of all time. Great staff. Ultra hip - with all white tiles floor to ceiling, and a signature mirror where many-a-selfie are taken and re-shared to their social.
and just around the corner…
__787 - a Puerto Rican sourced coffee shop with locations only here in El Paso, Puerto Rico, and New York City. The cold brew comes in an XL capri sun-style pouch, and it’s extremely strong. Sip with caution - it’s more of an all-dayer. P.S. their shop is cute - but what’s more is that it has great seating options. Comfy couches and chairs - or an indoor SWING at a high-top bar by the window.
__Glia’s - this beloved coffee truck has a new-ish brick-and-mortar location at Eat Up! (a food hall on Arizona Ave.). Here, I tend to get a richer, sweeter latte - not cold brew. Standout (+ surprisingly AMAZING) item: Strawberry Matcha with oat milk. My favorite time to get it is when Glia’s is out at the Upper Valley Market on Sunday, parked near the New Mexican flower truck that comes bearing fresh blooms for build-your-own bouquets.
__Honorable Mention to Savage Goods - while I tend to stick to nearby Viejo after realizing the delish cold brew at Savage Goods was in fact Viejo’s…I do love a melon matcha (yet another shocker - and can even pair with oat milk), iced Americano, and breakfast to-go or other pastry goodness (you can get a whole LOAF of chocolate oat banana bread for $6.50, take that SA and Austin $5.50 cookies).
__Honorable Mention #2 to my new espresso machine, gifted to us by Jordan and Davon for our upcoming wedding. Making your own coffee like this is actually bliss 😆.
