happy national hot dog day!
July 23, 2020Here with a few frank facts
- Astronauts ate (and actually preferred over space food) hot dogs aboard Apollo 7 in 1968 - read more and other related tidbits via Mental Floss.
- According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, or NHDSC, “A prime spot outside New York’s Central Park Zoo costs hot dog vendors nearly $300,000 per year.” I find this fact from NHDSC, a facet of the North American Meat Institute, pretty astonishing. Per some simple math, that would mean making an average of $821.92 in daily dog sales - nearly $1K/day to cover the spot alone.
- Official NHDSC ettiequte states that “ketchup should not be used on a hot dog for anyone over the age of 18.” (I included that one to validate my lone mustard as the dog below’s choice condiment.)
