satx: phil hardberger park and the new tobin land bridge
March 17, 2021Not long before a power-jolting snow situation struck Texas, we checked out the new Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge - about a 20-minute walk from the Phil Hardberger Park entrance at our apartment. Connecting strands of trails across the city and allowing animals traffic-free access to adjacent parks, the land bridge stretches 150 feet wide over Wurzbach Parkway.
It also bridges San Antonians on either side to continuations of city-wide trails, recreational areas, and cool park attractions, like the hill country grove of dried grass and cacti we saw. The deck of a nature center overlooked it. Just beyond that, the beginnings of a ‘Native Plant Wildscape Garden’ (pictured) were coming together, with a locked gate holding some desert-looking specimens.
